The Sou’wester is based on the sturdy little West Country Cove fishing boats that were built from the 1930s onwards; small enough to drag up the beach with a windlass, yet seaworthy enough to be a common sight working 10 miles or more off the Lizard. Unlike many modern motorboats, which are designed for speed and are not sea-kindly, the Sou’wester’s fine lined hull is very easily driven with a 10Hp diesel (the originals often had tiny engines) and the wine glass shaped transom leaves very little wash. The Sou’wester becomes a practical way of enjoying the likes of Poole or Chichester harbours, smooth, quiet and economical she disturbs nobody and yet she is ready to go to sea whenever you want to. We can supply the Sou’wester in many guises from an open, commercial workboat with tiller steering, through to the wheelhouse launch specification seen here. We will be pleased to match the specification to meet your needs. A bare hull is available for self build too. Price can range from £3450 to c. £25,000 (inc.
